BY HAMISH GEALE – THE EXAMINER North West Tall Timber Thunder completed a dream away trip on Saturday night by edging out Kilsyth Cobras 84-80.
Point guard Ahmad Starks starred in the nail-biting win, sinking 28 points as the Thunder just managed to hold on after leading by as many as 27 early in the second term.
Entering the match full of confidence after an eight-point win over Albury Wodonga on Friday, the Thunder made an imposing start to the match, racing to a 30-6 lead at the first break with Starks and Jeremiah Ingram proving instrumental.
But the Cobras wouldn’t roll over, winning every quarter thereafter to send the game down to the last minute.
Trailing by 13 points at the final chance to level the score with 13 seconds to go, only for Daniel Sepokas to seal the game from the free throw line.
Bradley Simpson grabbed eight points and eight rebounds for the Thunder while Ingram scored 17.
