The governing body is going towards a “three association model” and on the North-West Coast the NWBU will become the North West Basketball Association, with the North-West Thunder its “flagship program”. It ensures the Thunder meet criteria of being under this model to be part of the NBL1 competition.
“A lot of this stuff we had tossed around as options, but I guess what is really is pleasing is that BTAS have come out with that in a document and showed some leadership in that area, and also saying they want three regions, that is a positive,” Barker said.
“The important thing is that the NBL1 team has strong connections with all levels of basketball in the region, and this will make it stronger, but we’ve got to make sure under this model that it works really well.”
Basketball Tasmania and the Thunder will meet on Sunday to discuss it further.
