REBECCA MORRIS THE ADVOCATE North-West Tall Timbers Thunder will take on the Melbourne Tigers in the annual Todd Nothrop memorial fundraising match.
Chairman Tony Barker said the match would be a great chance to remember someone who gave so much to the local basketball community.
“His family is still very involved in the club. Todd played at a high level and a high standard,” Mr Barker said.
Mr Nothrop tragically passed away from cancer at a young age.
The club will be rattling donation tins for the Cancer Council.
Mr Barker said the thunder team will be wearing yellow socks to show their support for the charity.
The club said they encourage everyone to dig deep for a good cause, with all funds raised staying in Tasmania.
“The community really backs us. A few weeks ago we did a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald house and raised almost $6000,” Mr Barker said.
He said it was important for the club to have a close connection with the community and to use their national platform to help the community.
The Tigers are currently sitting sixth on the ladder and Thunder has now moved up to eighth.
The game starts at 7.30pm on Saturday at Ulverstone.
