BRAD COLE THE ADVOCATE North-West Coast players Reyne Smith, Taran Armstrong and coach Mark Radford have collected a gold medal for Australia at the FIBA Under 17 Oceania Championships in New Caledonia on Saturday night.
Up against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in the final, the Crocs prevailed 85-56
The Australians opened the game well with a 22-11 first quarter.
The Crocs made sure of the result in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 22-11 before coasting home in the final 10 minutes.
Armstrong, who is now based in Canberra at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence, finished with 11 points in 28:04 of court time to go with four rebounds, four steals and two assists, while Smith added two points in almost 13 minutes on the floor.
The Australian team were led by Joshua Giddey’s haul of 25 points on 9-11 shooting, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Australia also took out the gold medal in the girls competition with an 88-41 triumph over New Zealand.
