Andrew Bogut to miss Coastal NBL Blitz trip

The NBL Blitz’s Tasmanian venture has lost a little bit of its star power, with the Sydney Kings confirming that Andrew Bogut will not be taking part in the pre-season tournament.

The Kings on Tuesday said that due to commitments with the Boomers, he would miss the Blitz to ensure “he is given every opportunity to come into the NBL season as fresh as possible, considering his workload and his enormous importance to the team.”

Missing the Blitz would ensure the 34-year-old “gets some recovery time in” before October’s NBL season start.

Bogut is part of the Boomers’ squad for September’s FIBA World Cup, as well as matches against Canada and the US.

The Kings will play South East Melbourne at Devonport Recreation Centre on Friday, September 20, from 7.30pm, with Brisbane and the NBL1 All Stars and Cairns and Adelaide to meet at Ulverstone the night before.
